Eighth Volkswagon Santa run a success

This Sunday we held our annual Volkswagon (VW) Santa run at Beaulieu Motor Museum in support of the children at Southampton Children’s Hospital.

Phill Ashby, event organiser, said: “This is the eight year that we’ve held the VW Santa run for the Piam Brown Ward through Southampton Hospitals Charity. We are so grateful to the 40-50 cars and motorbikes that took part in the event this year.

It was a shame we couldn’t do our usual run from Beaulieu to University Hospital Southampton, but it was understandable considering the pandemic and current pressures in the hospital. Thank you to everyone who took part, and hopefully next year we can get back on the road!”

As always, there were prizes for the best dressed VW vehicle and best dressed family.

Congratulations to Scott and Jo who won the best dressed vehicle with their split VW camper, and the Wrens (aka the Elves) who met at this event a few years ago and been mates ever since!

Rachel Funnell, Southampton Hospitals Charity, said: “It was a fantastic event, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Our thanks to Phil for organising the VW Santa run again this year, and to Edwina Snow for becoming the patron for this event.

We also want to thank the Montague family and Beaulieu Motor Museum for donating the cost of entry for each vehicle to the Charity, and additional donations were taken from the participants. Sadly this year the ward and Charity were unable to accept physical gifts for the children due to their compromised immune system.

The money raised through this event will mean that I can purchase gifts for the children, starting with advent calendars, right through to gifts for those coming to our ward over the festive period. Without events like this, we would not be able to bring that extra bit of Christmas magic to or wards for our patients, so thank you to everyone who took part.”
