Our grant opportunities will be launched in a phased approach, beginning in Autumn 2024 with the launch of our new Patient Benefit grants programme. We are also pleased to announce significant support provided for Staff Wellbeing, Education and Training. To find out more scroll down.
APPLY FOR FUNDING
The following charity checklist should be utilised to determine whether the charity is best place to support a proposal:
- consistent with charitable objectives
- consistent with UHS strategic alignment
- beyond core NHS costs and services
- demonstrable positive patient impact and reach
- deliverable and good value for money
The Charity uses the following criteria to assess all applications:
- Strategic alignment
- Quality of applications
- Patient impact
- Value for money
- Evaluation and sustainability
All funding is delivered as a strategic partnership with UHS. The Charity is unable to fast-track approvals or side-track Trust processes. The application and approval process will vary according to the type of grants programme you are applying for

Research Programme
Our Research Programme is currently under development with ambitions to launch in Spring 2025.
We intend to support UHS staff members to develop high quality research proposals and develop innovative solutions to clinical problems. Keep an eye on programme announcements here.
Staff Support
Southampton Hospitals Charity is proud to offer a range of funding throughout 2024 – 2027 for the benefit of UHS staff via annual allocations. We aim to provide £1M over the next two years specifically towards UHS staff.
Our annual staff education, training, and wellbeing programme has been developed in partnership with UHS, and will support projects identified by UHS leadership as strategically important for the Trust. Southampton Hospitals Charity aims to support staff projects that:
- Improve staff wellbeing (small ideas, collaborative initiatives and awareness campaigns)
- Enhance education and training access (particularly in underfunded staff groups)
- Improve the Trust’s EDI journey
- Improve the environment within prioritised staff areas
The Charity is unable to support any further or individual requests beyond the agreed annual allocations in an effort to centralise and further our impact. Our annual funding commitment will be revised from 26/27 financial year onwards. To find out more about what has been allocated see below.
Staff Training and Education
Southampton Hospitals Charity Staff Training and Education Programme will provide an annual grant of £175k to UHS to support staff training and education.

Staff Wellbeing
Our Staff Wellbeing Programme will provide a grant of £300K to fund the following projects and initiatives:
- £250,000 towards improving staff facilities.
- £25,000 towards staff recognition and wellbeing events.
- £25,000 towards the UHS Staff Champions awards.

Arts
Creative spaces are crucial to enhance patient care through the transformational power of art. We are proud to have an arts programme that includes workshops, activities, installations and creating soothing environments for patients.
All art related requests are managed via our dedicated Arts Team. From January 2025 our Arts Programme will be live for staff to apply for funding for projects involving art.
