Banksy tribute to Southampton staff

You may have seen on the news that we are the proud recipients of an original Banksy, fittingly named Game Changer.

It sees a child playing with nurse doll, portraying NHS workers as superheroes for their dedication throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Paula Head, Chief Executive Officer  of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
said:

Our hospital family has been directly impacted with the tragic loss of much loved and respected members of staff and friends.

The fact that Banksy has chosen us to recognise the outstanding contribution everyone in the NHS is making, in unprecedented times, is a huge honour.

It will be really valued by everyone in the hospital as people get a moment in their busy lives to pause, reflect and appreciate this piece of art.

It will no doubt also be a massive boost to morale for everyone who works and is cared for at our hospital.”

Game Changer was gifted to Southampton Hospitals Charity, and will be auctioned in 2021.

For staff or patients wishing to see the piece, it will be located by the East Wing lifts until a reproduction is put in it’s place as a fixed tribute of gratitude to our staff.

Due to the current pandemic we have visitor restrictions in place, so unless you have a staff badge or patient letter, you will be turned away if you try to access the hospital to view the piece. This is for the safety of everyone at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
