Statement about Beacon cyber-security incident

Southampton Hospitals Charity has been informed that we are among 1,500 charities potentially affected by a cyber-security incident. On Monday 3 August, Beacon CRM, which provides the system we use to manage supporter records, confirmed it had been targeted by an unauthorised third party. Since then, we have been working closely with Beacon to understand the impact of the incident and determine what information may have been accessed.

At this stage, Beacon has not been able to say exactly what information was accessed. However, it may include personal information such as names and contact details, as well as records of interactions supporters have had with Southampton Hospitals Charity, including donation history and communication preferences.
Beacon has engaged specialist cyber security experts to investigate the incident and support its response. Southampton Hospitals Charity does not store payment card details or passwords within the Beacon system. At present, there is also no evidence that supporter information has been misused as a result of this incident.
We will continue to work closely with Beacon while investigations are ongoing. If we identify anyone who may have been affected beyond what is currently known, we will contact them directly.

In the meantime, we would encourage supporters to remain vigilant and be cautious of any unexpected communications claiming to be from Southampton Hospitals Charity. They should not share passwords, security codes or financial information in response to unsolicited emails, messages or phone calls.
