Lasting legacy of gratitude
Donations are helping us to create a lasting token of thanks to the NHS heroes who helped get us through a world-wide pandemic.
A Grant from NHS Charities Together is funding the creation and refurbishment of four garden spaces within the grounds of University Hospital Southampton.
The pandemic highlighted the need for frontline staff to have spaces where they can go to relax during breaks. It’s hoped that the gardens will reflect the public’s desire to thank frontline NHS workers by providing calm areas for people who need to get away from busy wards.
Work will begin in the autumn to create relaxing outdoor spaces outside the Feast restaurant, the West Wing, Princess Anne Hospital and the Occupational Health building.
As we come out of the pandemic, we may feel life returning to normal, but our staff will continue to treat patients with coronavirus over the weeks and months to come. We know that the long-term impact on the hospital, staff and our community will remain.
The legacy of the pandemic will last a long time and will not be forgotten. Lives have been lost within the hospital, including those of our courageous staff and relatives of our dear, kind supporters.
That’s why we aim to include a memorial in one of the gardens to commemorate those who have lost their lives during the pandemic.
This lasting legacy of thanks is only possible because of the generosity of the public and we are very grateful to have your support.
