Jump for Jaxon! Parents skydive for Southampton Hospitals Charity
Abbey and Jamie, the parents of Jaxon Lee Stewart are fundraising for the charity. Joining with friends and family for a sky dive on 21st of September with an incredible target of £5000!
In a heart-wrenching journey that began with a critical emergency, baby Jaxon was born five weeks premature in March last year at St. Richard’s Hospital. Delivered via a category 1 emergency C-section following concerns over his heart tracing, his arrival marked the start of a medical battle against the odds.
Immediately after birth, Jaxon required resuscitation and was rushed by emergency transport to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Southampton. There, doctors worked urgently to stabilise him, quickly diagnosing him with two rare and life-threatening conditions: Oesophageal Atresia and Tracheal-Oesophageal Fistula. Just 15 hours after birth, Jaxon underwent major surgery to correct both conditions. His mother, still recovering at St. Richard’s Hospital, and his father, Jamie, faced the devastating reality that the surgery was his only chance of survival.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the operation was a success. Jaxon was placed on a ventilator, sedated, and medically paralysed to allow his body time to heal. The days that followed were an emotional rollercoaster for his family, but the moment they were finally able to hold him was a victory of its own.
Jaxon’s fight was far from over. He remained tube-fed for weeks and required around-the-clock care from the exceptional NICU staff. Unfortunately, as his condition evolved, he endured a further eight surgeries, multiple resuscitations, and more diagnoses, spending time in the G4 ward, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Throughout it all, the G4 ward became a second home to Jaxon and his family, providing extraordinary care and unwavering support. Tragically, despite his incredible fight, Jaxon passed away at just six months old. His parents remember him as a warrior, a baby who defied the odds at every step of the way. His journey, though heartbreaking, is a testament to the love and resilience that defined his brief but impactful life.
Abby said “Jamie and I owe our world to G4 and the surgical team at Southampton Hospital as they saved our little boys life so many times and helped us have 6 incredible months with our baby boy. The nurses are heroes and definitely deserve capes!”
