Reclining chairs provide comfort for relatives

You’ve been visiting a relative or loved in hospital. There are only plastic chairs to sit on, and nowhere comfortable to rest your head, even for a few minutes so you can remain close to them.

Throughout this year, we’ve been asking our Wessex Neurological Department staff how we can make improvements to our areas to benefit our patients and their families.

We are proud to have been able to fund reclining chairs for neurological and spinal wards.

Hear from Matron, Sarah Halcrow, on the impact new reclining chairs have already had:

“Through our Niceties and Niggles campaign, we bought two reclining chairs for our E level neuro ward and the F4 spinal ward to replace the ones that had broken over time, a sign of how well used and appreciated these ‘buddy chairs’ are.

They have already proved invaluable so family or carers can stay overnight next to their loved ones as they can be used either as comfortable chairs or fold down flat to sleep on.

This makes a huge difference to get even a few moments of rest when you are worried about someone close to you.

We wholeheartedly thank Southampton Hospitals Charity and their incredible donors who have made this possible. Thank you.”
