At Southampton Hospitals Charity, our mission is to fund projects that improve patient care and support excellence across our hospital and community services.
We are committed to creating meaningful and lasting change in healthcare, backing initiatives that make a real difference for patients and staff alike.
Grant funding is available to NHS staff across our hospitals, with a focus on improving patient experience, outcomes and wellbeing. Our objectives as a Charity are to:

All applications must be submitted via Southampton Hospitals Charity’s grants portal. If you have difficulty using the system, please contact our grants team on grants@southamptonhospitalscharity.org or 023 8120 8881 to discuss alternative application methods.
All funding is delivered as a strategic partnership with UHS. The Charity is unable to fast-track approvals or side-track Trust processes. The application and approval process will vary according to the type of grants programme you are applying for.
Whatever funding programme you are applying to, the following checklist should be utilised to determine whether the charity is best place to support a proposal.
Is the project…
- consistent with charitable objectives?
- consistent with UHS strategic alignment?
- beyond core NHS costs and services?
- able to show demonstrable positive patient impact and reach?
- deliverable and good value for money?
Please note that charity finances are limited, and therefore not all who apply are guaranteed to receive funding for projects.
Our programmes
As well as our grant funding opportunities, Southampton Hospitals Charity delivers a number of ongoing programmes directly within the hospital to benefit patients and staff. See what else we’re making happen across UHS – these programmes aren’t currently open for applications, but offer a snapshot of the difference your charity is making.
Our impact
From April 2024 – March 2025, the Patient Benefit programme distributed approximately £1,000,000 across hospital departments.
