The British Transplant Games – 2024

Running for over 40 years, The Westfield Health British Transplant Games are a celebration of life.

Taking place in different host cities every summer, the games see teams from hospitals across the UK come together to compete in a medley of sports. The 4-day event attracts around 1000 transplant athletes and more than 1700 supporters.

An inclusive Games: Transplant survivors including children as young as five can compete in more than 25 sports and indeed, many athletes also go on to compete at the World Transplant Games.

The Kidney unit at Southampton Children’s Hospital cares for children from the South Central area, serving a population of approximately 8.4 million.

Through funding from Southampton Hospitals Charity, we aim to take a team of children to this event in Nottingham, running 1 – 4 August 2024, covering all the costs for the child and one carer/parent. This is extended to other family members if we exceed our initial funding target.

Kidney disease is a life-long condition and sadly transplantation is not a cure. These children may need multiple periods of dialysis and several transplants throughout their lifetime. The effects of this on the child, siblings and parents can never be underestimated, and we want to give a little bit back.

You can help raise funds through School Disco’s, Non-uniform days, Sponsored Runs, Bake Sales, 2p coin collections. The ideas are endless!
