Winning entry of the UHS Snapshots competition

Thank you so much to everyone who submitted a film for our UHS snapshot video competition.

We asked patients and staff to send us short films about what UHS means to them, and we were overwhelmed at the care and effort that went into each and every submission. Entries showed a wide range of areas of hospital care and we are delighted to announce that the winning entry is the automated biochemistry team!

Congratulations, you have won £500 for a ward, department or appeal of your choice.

The three finalists were as follows:

  • Automated biochemistry: Showing a fairy-tale type of film, this video shows where the tests go within the laboratory and how these help to analyse test results.
  • G9 family: Showing everything that the nurses do for the patients, how they teach future generations, and how they are providing exceptional care to their patients.
  • Thoracic surgery: Showing the incredible staff behind the unit and the operations.

Commenting on the winning entry, Chair of Southampton Hospitals Charity, Jenni Douglas-Todd said

From my perspective the Automated Biochemistry Team had the edge over the other two submissions as it demonstrated the breadth of UHS as a district general and tertiary hospital. It demonstrated the skills that are critical to patient care, although they do not interact directly with patients.

Visually it has lots of impact and the choice of music and different themes makes it a powerful and memorable piece. Well done though to all those who submitted entries, and in particular to the three shortlisted videos.”

The videos were judged on the following criteria:

  • Inspirational Power
  • Overall impression / Impact
  • Expression of Theme
  • Inspiration to others
  • Memorable

Our thanks to everyone who was involved and submitted a video. A huge thank you to our judges Jenni Douglas-Todd, Neck of the Woods Films, Matt Watts, and Jason Shauness.
