Supporting Carers on Carers Rights Day 2024

At Southampton Hospitals Charity, we understand the challenges faced by unpaid carers who dedicate themselves to supporting loved ones during long hospital stays. That’s why we are proud to provide charity-funded meal vouchers through our Carers Support Service at University Hospital Southampton (UHS).

This Carers Rights Day, we’re highlighting the importance of ensuring carers have access to the support they need and deserve.

How our meal voucher scheme helps carers

One such carer, a parent caring for their daughter whilst she is receiving care at UHS shares:

“Hospital is not a cheap experience when your child needs long-term care, so having a voucher towards food has been really helpful. The carers meal vouchers encourage you to leave the ward, which is a really big thing. The fact that carers can claim a hot or cold meal within the same hospital has meant that I can now have some time away and eat in the restaurant.”

The £4.50 meal vouchers funded by Southampton Hospitals Charity offer carers a much-needed break and nourishment during their tireless caregiving journeys.

Thank you to all our supporters whose generosity makes our Carers Support Service possible. Your contributions help us provide vital assistance to carers during challenging times.
