Southampton race success

We want to say a massive well done to all of our 270 runners who took part in the fifth annual ABP Southampton races.

Whether you took part in the marathon, half marathon, 10k or fun run, you are all superstars to us!

A special shout out to some of our runners…

Congratulations to Sammie Rose who came in second in the women’s marathon race with an incredible time of 3 hours and 10 minutes:
I can’t believe that I was the second woman overall! The cardiac unit in Southampton saved the life of a good friend over Christmas. Without them she wouldn’t be here so I am proud to support the charity. I’m still absolutely buzzing from today. Well done to everyone who took part.”
Phoebe Wilson was running the marathon for her brother, Ruben:
I am so fortunate that he is here today and was waiting on the finish line for me. He had a stroke last year and the team were so amazing. It is only because of them that he is here today with me at this event. We’ve already raised over £2,000 for Southampton Hospital Charity, and we’d do it 10 times over!”
Reuben adds:
If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have recovered as well as I did. I can’t remember all of the nurses names, but they saved my life. Thank you.”
Staff who worked at the hospital also took part as well as grateful patients and family members. Hear from our very own Kerry Rayner and Eileen Reed from the F5 head and neck cancer ward. Kerry comments:
I’ve worked at the hospital for 20 years, and Eileen 12 years. It is all about raising money to improve the patient experience. This has been our first ever half marathon, and we are really proud of ourselves.”
