Southampton NHS dance off

We all know that Christmas is going to be very different this year. Last year we asked our staff to decorate their wards to add some Christmas cheer and wow, did they deliver. This year however, due to infection risks we’ve had to think outside the box.

Thanks to the help of Tori Caine School of Dancing, we’ve teamed up with local Strictly Come Dancing celebrities Mike Bushell (BBC Sports Presenter), and Heather Parsons (General ICU past patient and People’s Choice Strictly dancer) to challenge you to a 15 second dance routine.

Maintaining good morale across the hospital is incredibly important at this time, as our staff have worked tirelessly since the pandemic began and will continue to do so.

We hope that this routine makes you smile as much as it does for us and lifts spirits across the South Coast.

We would love to see your versions of the dance, so please do send them through to us on our social pages.

Video adaptations

Over the last few years, we have discovered the importance of rehabilitation as well as the restrictions that many of our patients may face due to long term illness or trauma.

We are currently fundraising for two gym areas; one in the new General Intensive Care Unit, and the other within our Medicine for Older People department.

We have also created a simplified dance video for those with limited mobility.

A different kind of Christmas

This Christmas, to protect the safety of everyone in our hospital, we’re unable to accept physical gifts for those staying with us to have treatment over the festive period.
