History is the science of a place, while memory is the art of the people who experienced the place.
To celebrate the NHS’ 75th Anniversary on 5 July, Southampton Hospitals Charity are inviting everyone to share their special memories of any of our hospitals.
This is an opportunity for everyone to have your memories inscribed into the permanent history of the hospital.
The image can be a photograph taken by phone, an old family photo relevant to University Hospital Southampton in one way or another, or a shot of something memorable that is meaningful to you. In addition, we will need a short description around the story behind the image, or the reason you find it relevant to the collective history of the hospital.
We will display collected photos in a designed frame and put them on display on 5 July in the hospital.
To apply: Please send a digital copy of the photo(s) and a short description to Neda.Mohamadi@uhs.nhs.uk
The deadline for submissions is 31 May.
Please mention’ Anonymous content’ in your email if you wish to share your photo without your name.
By submitting the photo, the person confirms that they hold all intellectual property rights in the image and agrees to share the provided picture and memory with others. In addition, participants will allow the work to be photographed, reproduced, and edited by the Charity’s art team for publicity in digital and print format.
About NHS75 celebrations
Since the NHS was founded on 5 July 1948, it has always innovated and adapted to meet to needs of each generation.
As we mark 75 years of the NHS on 5 July 2023, we’re looking back on the history and achievements of our organisation, the recent innovations and technology that has changed how we provide care, the dedication of the hundreds of thousands of our staff and volunteers, and the opportunities that lie ahead to shape the next 75 years of the health service.
It is a time to celebrate our past, but more importantly, a time to think about a future where we continue to put patients first.
